Most manufacturers recommend changing differential fluid every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. If you tow frequently or drive in harsh conditions, more frequent changes are recommended.

A failing differential often produces a whining, howling, or clunking noise, especially when turning or accelerating. These sounds typically worsen over time and indicate the need for immediate inspection.

Yes. All vehicles have at least one differential. Front-wheel drive vehicles have it integrated into the transaxle. Rear-wheel drive vehicles have a separate rear differential. AWD and 4WD vehicles have both front and rear differentials plus a transfer case.
